Ask Politely, Get More Help
When you visit a new city, you may need to ask for directions. In the west, people usually say "Excuse me" first. Then they ask in a polite way, such as "Could you tell me where the restroom is?"
当你去一个新城市，可能需要问路。在西方，人们通常先说“打扰一下”，然后礼貌地问，比如“您能告诉我洗手间在哪里吗？”
Polite questions are usually longer and softer. Instead of "Where is the bank?", we say "Do you know where the bank is?" The answer is also given politely, with a smile and sometimes a helpful hand.
礼貌的问题通常更长更柔和。我们不直接说“银行在哪？”，而是说“您知道银行在哪吗？”回答也同样礼貌，带着微笑，有时还会热心帮忙。
Jack once got lost in a big mall. He rushed around but found nothing. Finally he asked a clerk politely, "Could you tell me which direction the bookstore is?" The clerk walked him to the corner himself.
杰克曾在一个大商场里迷路。他到处乱跑却什么也没找到。最后他礼貌地问店员：“您能告诉我书店在哪个方向吗？”店员亲自带他走到了拐角处。
Remember to use words like "please", "pardon" and "thank you". If you do not hear clearly, say "Pardon?" politely. A polite request makes the staff happy to help you.
记得使用“请”“请再说一遍”“谢谢”这些词。如果没听清，礼貌地说“请再说一遍？”礼貌的请求会让工作人员乐于帮你。
So whether you are looking for a washroom, a mailbox or a hotel, always ask politely. A gentle question opens more doors than a loud one. Good manners make the world friendlier.
