The Story of the Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. On that night, the moon is the fullest and brightest of the whole year.
中秋节是中国最重要的传统节日之一。它在农历八月十五。那晚的月亮是一年中最圆最亮的。
A beautiful folk story explains this custom. Long ago, there were ten suns in the sky. A brave man named Hou Yi shot down nine of them and saved the people. He became a hero and was honored by everyone.
一个美丽的民间故事解释了这一习俗。很久以前，天上有十个太阳。勇敢的后羿射下了九个，救了百姓。他成了英雄，受到所有人的尊敬。
Hou Yi got a magic medicine from the goddess. Whoever drank it would live forever. But he did not want to leave his wife Chang'e, so he asked her to keep the medicine safe. One day, a bad man tried to steal it.
后羿从女神那里得到了仙药。谁喝了它就能长生不老。但他不想离开妻子嫦娥，于是让她保管仙药。一天，一个坏人想偷走它。
Chang'e had no choice but to drink the medicine herself. She flew up to the moon and became the moon goddess. Hou Yi was very sad. Every year on this eve, people admire the moon and remember her.
嫦娥别无选择，只好自己喝下仙药。她飞上月亮，成了月神。后羿非常伤心。每年这个前夕，人们赏月怀念她。
Today, families get together, share mooncakes and dessert, and enjoy the warmth of home. The round moon, like a circle, means reunion. This festival reminds us that family is the most valuable present in life.
如今，家人们团聚在一起，分享月饼和甜点，享受家的温暖。圆圆的月亮像圆一样象征团圆。这个节日提醒我们，家庭是生命中最珍贵的礼物。
