What Is It Made Of?
Look around your room: your coat is made of cotton, your desk is made of wood, and your bottle may be made of glass or plastic. Everything around us is made of some material.
环顾你的房间：外套是棉做的，书桌是木头做的，瓶子可能是玻璃或塑料做的。我们身边的一切都由某种材料制成。
Some materials are natural, like cotton, wood and clay. Others are made by people, like steel, glass and plastic. In China, many products are made in local factories and sold all over the world.
有些材料是天然的，如棉、木头和黏土。另一些是人造的，如钢、玻璃和塑料。在中国，许多产品由本地工厂生产，销往世界各地。
The process of making things is interesting. Tea leaves, for example, are picked and processed into a smooth drink. Workers in the industry carefully check the surface of each product before it leaves the factory.
制造物品的过程很有趣。比如茶叶，被采摘并加工成爽口的饮品。行业工人在产品出厂前仔细检查每件产品的表面。
But materials also cause problems. Plastic bags are used once and thrown away, which is bad for the earth. That is why we should recycle paper, metal and glass, and use reusable bags instead.
但材料也带来问题。塑料袋用一次就扔掉，这对地球有害。这就是为什么我们应该回收纸张、金属和玻璃，改用可重复使用的袋子。
A famous brand may be known for its quality, but the real value lies in the material and the care in production. Next time you buy something, ask yourself: what is it made of, and where is it made?
