Stories in Stone
The second round of the landmark project was harder: each group had to dig beneath the surface of its landmark and find the story behind the stone. 'Last time you sold us the sights,' Cozy teacher said. 'This time, show us the souls.' The students groaned, then got to work, armed with library books, documentaries, and a great deal of curiosity.

Jack discovered that the Great Wall was not one wall but many — built, rebuilt, and extended over two thousand years by different dynasties. 'It is a family album,' he said in his presentation. 'Every dynasty added its page. Some pages are glorious, some are tragic. But together they tell the story of a civilisation that kept saying: we will protect what we love.'

Lily explored the dark history of the Eiffel Tower: the engineers who were mocked, the artists who protested, and the tower's secret role as a radio station in wartime. 'It was almost torn down,' she said. 'It survived because it was useful — not beautiful, useful. And in the end, usefulness became beauty. Maybe that is the lesson: keep building what works, and the world will learn to love it.'

Han Mei found that the Pyramids had been robbed, studied, and argued over for centuries — and that new questions were still being asked with modern technology. 'We used to think we knew everything about them,' she said. 'Now we know we know almost nothing. The greatest landmarks are humble teachers: they remind us how little we understand, and how much there is to learn.'
Han Mei
Li Lei's group chose a different kind of landmark: the Terracotta Army. 'It was built for one emperor, discovered by accident, and now it stands as a symbol of China's depth,' he said. 'An entire army, buried underground for two thousand years, waiting. It teaches us patience — the kind of patience that turns a burial mound into a world heritage site and silence into a story.'
At the end of the presentations, Cozy teacher asked the class to vote for the most moving story. The vote was tied between the Wall and the Terracotta Army. 'You are both right,' she said. 'China has many voices, and they all speak the same language: stone. Let us never forget that we are standing on a civilisation that has been telling its story for five thousand years — and the best chapters are still being written.'

否定词 / only / so / neither 开头的倒装
Not only is the tower historic, but it is also beautiful.
So impressive was the view that nobody spoke.
Neither has he visited the Wall, nor has he seen the sea.
It is...that / 状语从句省略
It was the guide's story that moved us most.
When (it is) viewed from the hill, the city is spectacular.
The sculpture, though (it was) damaged, is still priceless.
