Grammar on Stage
The mid-term review was approaching, but Cozy teacher had announced something unusual: the review would be a performance. 'Each group will present one grammar point as a short play,' she said. 'If grammar were a person, what would it look like? Show me.' The class buzzed with excitement. Jack's group immediately claimed the subjunctive mood: 'It is the mood of dreams,' Jack declared.
期中复习临近，但 Cozy 老师宣布了一件不寻常的事：复习将是一场演出。“每个小组把一条语法点演成短剧，”她说，“如果语法是一个人，它会长什么样？表演给我看。”全班沸腾了。Jack 的小组立刻抢下了虚拟语气：“它是梦想的语态，”Jack 宣称。
Jack's play was about a boy who wished for a superpower. 'If I had wings, I would fly to school,' the boy sighed. 'If I were invisible, I would never be late.' His friend answered: 'If I were you, I would just set an alarm.' The class roared with laughter, and then Jack turned to the audience: 'Notice the pattern! If + past tense, would + do. That is the second conditional, the mood of impossible dreams.'

She explained the rule with a flourish: 'When a negative word like never, hardly, or only starts the sentence, the subject and verb change places, like a dance.' The class clapped in time.

Han Mei's group chose the emphatic structure. 'It was Cozy teacher who made grammar fun,' they said, pointing at the teacher, who pretended to blush. 'It is the review that we have been waiting for.' Han Mei explained: 'It is/was + the emphasised part + that/who + the rest. We use it to shine a spotlight on one part of the sentence.' She demonstrated by spotlighting Jack with a torch, who bowed dramatically.

And that is the only way grammar ever truly stays.' The students filed out, still humming their lines. On the way home, Jack muttered: 'If I could act like that every day, I would never forget a rule again.' And he was probably right.

虚拟语气三大类
现在：If were/did, would do / 过去：If had done, would have done / 将来：If were to do, would do
If I were you, I would set an alarm. （如果我是你，我会定闹钟。）
If he had studied, he would have passed. （如果他学了，他就通过了。）
If it were to rain, we would stay inside. （要是下雨，我们就待屋里。）
⚠️ 记口诀：现在 were/did，过去 had done，将来 were to do。
倒装与强调
否定词 + 助动词 + 主语 / It is...that...
Never have I seen such a strange classroom. （我从未见过这么奇怪的教室。）
Only then did we realise how small we were. （直到那时我们才意识到自己多渺小。）
It was the year 2100 that surprised me most. （最让我惊讶的正是 2100 年。）
⚠️ only + 状语位于句首、否定词位于句首都要部分倒装。
