The last week of senior one arrived faster than anyone had expected. Standing in front of the teaching building, the four friends took a photo together, just as they had done on the very first day. 'Look how different we look now!' Han Mei laughed, pointing at the photo. It was true: the nervous faces in the first picture had become confident and calm. The year had been an adventure, full of ups and downs, but they had grown through all of it.
They spent the week reviewing their favourite moments. There was the sports meet, where Jack, a natural athlete, won two gold medals. There was the interview for the school journal, when Han Mei bravely talked about her dream of becoming a doctor. And there was the day when junior students came to their class and asked for advice. Li Lei remembered how proud he felt, giving the same help that senior students had once given him.
On the last day of class, Cozy gave them a final lesson. 'You have learned many grammar rules and words this year,' he said. 'But the most important thing you have learned is how to learn. When you lack knowledge, seek it. When you feel anxious, breathe. When a friend is in trouble, offer aid. Remember, you are not alone in this world; your neighbourhood, your school and your family are all part of your strength.'
In the evening, the class held a small farewell party in the classroom. Students brought snacks and drinks, and someone played the guitar. They recommended their favourite books to each other and promised to keep in touch during the summer. Lily's eyes were red, but she was smiling. 'We may go to different classes next year,' she said, 'but the memories we made together will always be our treasure. Let us honour this year with a promise: we will keep growing.'
Walking home that night, Li Lei looked at the starry sky and thought about the days ahead. The summer vacation was coming, and he had already made a plan: he would volunteer at the library, read ten books and learn to cook three dishes. 'Next year will be even better,' he said to himself. 'Because now I know who I am and where I am going.' He smiled and walked faster, eager to begin the next chapter of his story.
